It’s often said that there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
Tassie winters may be cold, but rugging up and getting outside is worth it, especially if your destination is Bicheno Beams!
This free outdoor light show, set to a musical soundtrack, is held for three weeks every winter and in 2024 the show is currently running from June 29 to July 20.
We loved the colour and movement of our first Bicheno Beams experience, and here’s the lowdown on what you need to know if you’re planning to go along.
❄️ Held nightly at Lions Park, Bicheno. You can easily park in the surrounding streets, although some nights are busier than others – almost 12,000 people flocked to see the colourful beams of light dance against the dark night sky over three weeks in 2023 and this year is expected to attract record crowds.
❄️ Gates open at 5.30pm, show starts at 6pm and runs for 15 minutes.
❄️ Entry is free. But there’s also a sausage sizzle ($3 sausages) and an ice cream van if you want snacks. There’s a lucky door prize draw. You can also buy raffle tickets to win a cruise to see the Northern Lights.
❄️ Pack a picnic blanket or some camp chairs. Or you can stand. A thermos of hot chocolate would also be a great idea.
❄️ Rug up. The crowd was a sea of puffer jackets and beanie-clad heads on the night we visited.
❄️ If your child is sensitive to loud noises you might want to consider packing earmuffs. But my boys didn’t have a problem with the noise level.
❄️ There are two different light shows that play on alternating nights, so if you’re in Bicheno for two nights you can see two different shows.
❄️ Enjoy!
